University of Hawaii (UH) at Hilo soccer standout Tom Vorkastner picked a good time to finally cash in for the Vulcans 3-2 win over Western Washington last Sunday.

The Vulcans led 1-0 going into halftime, according to the Official Athletics Site of Hawaii at Hilo. UH Hilo came back after halftime with another goal in the 57th minute, as Kaleihalia Tolentino-Perry shot a corner kick that landed in the box.

“It was a great feeling to score the game winner,” Vorkastner said in a YouTube interview. “It was a nice assist from David, and to put this ball into the back of the net was a nice feeling. I had a couple of shots that didn’t go in before so it was like, ‘Finally, I scored.’ It was just overwhelming, this feeling. I'm really happy about my goal."

Following their close loss to nationally ranked No. 17 Seattle Pacific earlier this month, the Vulcans improved to 2-2.

Against Western Washington, UH Hilo also scored goals from Alexander Hernandez-Herbach and Caesar Hjerten.

Goalie Christian Souza also starred with three saves for the Vulcans, who were set to face Azusa Pacific in their conference opener on Sept. 29. The Vulcans ended up losing to Azusa Pacific 0-1.
