The University of Hawaii at Hilo student-athletes, sophomore Sydney Gott and junior Viviana Poli, have been named Pepsi Athletes of the Week.

Gott (women's volleyball) and Poli (women's soccer) executed remarkable performances during their teams’ recent games.

“Middle blocker Sydney Gott had two outstanding performances in her team's wins... against Biola (Oct. 6) and Concordia Irvine (Oct. 9),” according to The Official Athletics Site of Hawaii at Hilo. “Both of these wins were crucial in her team's placement in the PacWest and their journey toward postseason. Gott posted up big numbers in both wins. “UHH keeper Viviana Poli led the Vulcans' defense on the road.”

The 6-foot-3 middle blocker (Gott) had two blocks, seven block assists, 14 kills and totaled a .478 hitting percentage against Biola. She also had the highest hitting percentage on her team against Concordia Irvine at .375 and eight kills, according to the University of Hawaii Hilo Athletics.

The 21-year-old goalkeeper (Poli) started all four games on the road and played a critical role in her team’s four wins. Poli had three shutouts in the net, accumulating 18 saves.

Four of her saves were in high-pressure situations, where the competition was only up by one goal, the University of Hawaii Hilo Athletics reported.
