The University of Hawaii at Hilo Vulcans men's soccer team beat the Concordia University Irvine (CUI) Eagles 2-1 on Oct. 19.

Hilo Athletics named Midfielder Luca Lippert as a game leader, having played every game in the team's shortened spring season. In addition to his success during the Concordia victory, Lippert has racked up a total of 288 minutes played with one goal scored across the season's four games, while also being named to the All PacWest Hawaii Pod Team and being selected as a PacWest Scholar, according to Hilo Athletics.

"UH Hilo (4-5-1, 2-3-1 PacWest) scored their two goals over CUI (4-5-2, 2-1-1 PacWest) in the first 20 minutes of the match. Kalei Tolentino-Perry found Luca Lippert in the box, who made a sliding kick to push the ball into the Eagles' net. In the 13th minute, Alexander Hernandez-Herbach scored off a pass from Henrique Castilho. Hernandez-Herbach quickly received the ball from Castilho and made his shot to the lower-center of the goal, successfully getting past CUI's goalkeeper," according to The Official Athletics Site of Hawaii at Hilo.

After an 80th-minute goal from the Eagles, Hernandez-Herbach and Lippert's early game goals both worked in securing the lead and the eventual win over CUI. Defender Castilho and forward Tolentino-Perry were both vital in assisting the game-winning goals, with one assist each.

As the Vulcans continue their season, UH Hilo has announced the return of fans to live sporting events. With capacity capped at 500 people per game, fans who follow the university and team's spectator policy -- including proof of vaccination, masks and social distancing -- can return to the UH Hilo baseball stadium to watch the soccer team's home games, according to The Official Athletics Site of Hawaii at Hilo.
