The Hawai'i Police Department has issued the following press release:
During the week of Dec. 6 through Dec. 12, 2021, Hawai`i Island police arrested 19 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Three of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. Two of the drivers were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 1,011 DUI arrests compared with 951 during the same period last year, an increase of 6.3 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 763 major accidents so far this year compared with 734 during the same period last year, an increase of 4.0 percent.
To date, there were 25 fatal crashes, resulting in 25 fatalities, compared with 15 fatal crashes, resulting in 15 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents an increase of 66.7% for fatal crashes, and 66.7 percent for fatalities.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
