Two freshmen were key to the University of Hawaii Hilo Vulcans' 85-78 victory over Holy Names University in the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium on Jan. 6.
Aniwaniwa Tait-Jones was the Vulcans' top scorer with 22 points, followed by Max Kunnert with a career-high of 20 points.
“Tait-Jones led the floor with 13 rebounds, earning his second double-double of the season,” according to the Official Athletics Site of Hawaii at Hilo. "The Vulcans responded quickly, taking advantage of a shooting foul that led to Kunnert making three good free throws (72-70).”
University of Hawaii at Hilo shot 82% at the charity stripe and were 7-for-19 in treys.
The Vulcans played Biola Jan. 10 on their home court and were victorious with a 97-89 final score. The next game will be Thursday, Jan. 13, against the Academy of Art at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium at 7:30 p.m.
The University of Hawaii has temporarily suspended allowing spectators at the auditorium for both men's and women’s basketball games at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium scheduled in January. The restriction is in response to the surge of COVID-19 cases due to the rapid spread of the omicron variant.
