The Vulcans earned their five-game winning streak after beating the Dominican University Penguins on Jan. 17.

It was a 77-63 victory over Dominican in the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium.

“The Vulcans and Penguins played a competitive game with 18 lead changes, both teams taking the lead nine times,” according to the Official Athletics Site of Hawaii at Hilo. “Dominican led through the first quarter, but it was the Vulcans who led at the end of the remaining three quarters.”

After its victorious game against the Dominican, University of Hawaii at Hilo ranked 7-2 overall and 4-1 in the Pacific West Conference, according to Hawaii at Hilo.

While four Vulcans reached four personal fouls, every Vulcan who entered the game scored points. None fouled out of the game. Mandi Kawaha (14 points), Heaven Samayoa-Mathis (13 points) and Bree Olsen (11 points) were the lead scorers. There were also six steals recorded during the game led by the Kawaha sisters: Mindy with three, Mandy with two. Noelle Sua-Godinet had one steal.

The Vulcans played Azusa Pacific on Jan. 22, which turned into a tough loss at 57-79. The team has upcoming games against Concordia University Irvine, Biola University and Point Loma Nazarene University.
