Despite tying scores twice with the Eagles, the University of Hawaii at Hilo women’s basketball lost to host Biola University.

The Vulcans scored 55 to Biola’s 67 during its game at Chase Gymnasium in La Mirada, California, on Jan. 25.

“The cold night from downtown was very uncharacteristic for the Vulcans,” according to the Official Athletics Site of Hawaii at Hilo. “Prior to the turn of the calendar year, the Vulcans were averaging seven 3s a game, and had a season-high 12 in a win over Point Loma. In their last two games, they have converted just two of 22.”

Out of 15 tries, the Vulcans found no luck behind the arch.

The UH Hilo team played a strong defense, forcing 17 Biola turnovers. The Vulcans also had four team blocks to Eagles’ one. Bree Olson scored 16, Nikki Miller and Jenna Waki contributed seven points each, and Heaven Samayoa-Mathis and Mandi Kawaha scored six points each.

The Vulcans suffered another loss the same week, on Jan. 27 at Point Loma Nazarene University, where the final score was 50-67. Saturday they will face Biola again at Chase Gymnasium in La Mirada at 3:30 p.m.
