A freshman led the University of Hawaii at Hilo Vulcans’ offensive play against the Concordia University Eagles in the Jan. 24 game.

Aniwaniwa Tait-Jones marked his career-high score of 30 points during the 86-84 loss to Concordia University Irvine at its home court in the CU Arena.

“Tait-Jones made his fifth double-double of the season with a career-high of 30 points and collection of 11 rebounds,” according to the Official Athletics Site of Hawaii at Hilo.

The 6-foot-6 forward had two steals during the game and successfully scored behind the free throw line eight times out of 10. Overall, the Vulcans shot 50.8% at the free-throw line. Darren Williams was a seamless 2-for-2, and Donald McHenry missed only one out of seven.

While UH Hilo’s men’s basketball team was able to close the Eagles’ 16-point lead and brought the game back within a three-point reach six times, it was ultimately a two-point loss to Concordia University Irvine.

The Vulcans remained in Southern California for their Jan. 27 game against Point Loma Nazarene University, which ended in another loss, 78-91, followed by a Jan. 29 loss to Biola University, 77-88. The Vulcans look forward to their next matchup against Azusa Pacific University on Thursday, Feb. 3, at home in Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium.
