University of Hawaii Hilo Vulcans defeat Holy Names University Hawks 71-46 and improve to 12-8

The University of Hawaii Hilo Vulcans women's basketball team recently triumphed over the Holy Names University Hawks 71-46 for their second win in a row in the Tobin Gymnasium Feb. 16.

Following their victory, the Vulcans improved to 12-8 overall and 9-7 in the PacWest.

Sara Shimizu led in scoring and contributed 17 points to the final score, successfully bagging three steals. Fellow Vulcans Bree Olson and Noelle Sua-Godinet added six points each to the score, and Sierra Cavaletto scored five points. 

During the game, the Vulcans racked up 36 rebounds. They stayed in the lead for the last three quarters, and the point gap grew to 30 points at its widest before the game was over.

The Hawks have yet to win a game this season, and declined to 0-20 overall and 0-12 in the league following their most recent loss.

The Vulcans faced the Fresno Pacific University Sunbirds on Feb. 18 at the Special Events Center and came away victorious, with a 56-46 win. Then on Feb. 20, the Vulcans went up against Dominican University of California at the Conlan Center and suffered a loss at a razor-thin margin, 65-68. The team has just one regular-season game left, against Chaminade University, coming up Friday, Feb. 25, at 5 p.m. at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium.
