The University of Hawaii at Hilo Vulcans bowed down to the Hawaii Pacific University Sharks softball team during the second match of the non-conference doubleheader at their opponent’s field on Feb. 20.

The team from Hawaii Pacific University never gave the Vulcans the chance to score, which resulted in a 6-0 tally.

“The Vulcans couldn't quite crack HPU's Taylor Thompson,” the Official Athletics Site of Hawaii at Hilo said. “She tossed six strikeouts in seven innings and was able to work out of high-pressure situations resulting in 12 UHH runners being left on base. The Vulcans had two consecutive innings where their offense was shut down by the Sharks with the bases loaded.”

The Vulcans had eight hits in the game and the Sharks had 11. The 6-0 score brought UHH to 2-2 overall and HPU to  6-7 overall.

The Vulcans conference play started on Feb. 26 with a doubleheader at the Howard A. Okita Field, where the Vulcans rallied to win both games against the same opponent, the HPU Sharks, 5-2 and 5-0. They followed with another doubleheader against Chaminade University, which resulted in two losses, 2-3 and 1-5.

The Vulcans' next game will be Saturday, March 5, at noon against University of Hawaii at Hilo alumni.
