The University of Hawaii at Hilo (UHH) baseball team held No. 4-ranked Point Loma to just three runs over two games to split an April 23 doubleheader with the Sea Lions and snap their eight-game winning streak.
Aaron Davies pitched five shutout innings in the nightcap to lead the Vulcans to a 2-0 win, a release by Hilo Athletics said. The team improved to 26-16 and 14-14 in the PacWest Conference. John Kea notched his conference-leading 11th save of the season in the Vulcans' shutout win.
UHH was able to hold Point Loma to nine total hits for the day and three runs in the first game of the doubleheader. In the previous day's doubleheader, the Sea Lions put on a stronger performance with 27 total hits and 21 total runs.
In the third inning, Joshua Fuentes got UHH's first run on the board. Neither team would score again until the seventh inning when Brett Komatsu was able to reach home from a double by Casey Yamauchi.
In Wednesday's action, the Vulcans split a doubleheader with Azusa Pacific, taking the first game 8-6 but falling in the nightcap 3-2.
UHH dropped both ends of another twin bill to Azusa Pacific on Thursday, losing 13-8 in the first game and 11-10 in the second game.
