Attempted murder investigation underway in Ocean View shooting incident

Hawai'i Island police are seeking the public's assistance in an attempted murder investigation following a shooting incident in Ocean View. The incident occurred on Sunday evening, October 15, 2023, in the Hawai'i Ocean View Estates subdivision. The police received a distress call reporting a male in need of medical assistance, possibly as a result of an assault.

Upon arrival at the scene near Aloha Boulevard and Paradise Parkway, officers discovered a severely injured individual lying on the ground near a gold Toyota van. The victim, believed to be a 53-year-old resident of Ocean View, had sustained severe facial injuries. However, due to the extent of his injuries, the police were unable to immediately gather information about how he had been harmed.

The victim was transported to Kona Community Hospital under life-threatening conditions. After a thorough examination, it was determined that he had suffered a gunshot wound to his facial area. He was then transferred to the Queens Medical Center on Oahu for further medical care and is currently reported to be in stable condition.

The Hawaii Island Police Department has issued a statement to the public, urging the community's assistance in their ongoing investigation. Detectives from the Area II Criminal Investigation Section are actively seeking information regarding the events leading up to the shooting incident and those responsible for it. They are encouraging residents in the vicinity of Aloha Boulevard and Paradise Parkway to review their home security camera footage and report any suspicious activities that may have occurred during the time of the incident.
