The Department of Health (DOH) has announced the reopening of King’s Chinese BBQ 5 following a recent inspection. According to a DOH news release dated April 9, 2024, only two dying roaches were observed on the floor during the follow-up inspection, with no other pest activity detected within or around kitchen equipment.

In response to the findings, the food establishment has taken proactive measures by contracting a professional pest control company to conduct weekly treatments for the next month. The DOH will further monitor the establishment's efforts by conducting an unannounced follow-up inspection to ensure ongoing compliance and active pest prevention measures.

The DOH Food Safety Branch, responsible for safeguarding the health of Hawai‘i residents and visitors, emphasizes the importance of maintaining high standards in food establishments. The branch conducts routine health inspections, investigates foodborne illnesses, and works towards preventing future incidents.

As highlighted in the news release, DOH food safety specialists collaborate with business owners and food service workers to promote safe food preparation and employee hygiene practices.

In light of these developments, individuals interested in accessing restaurant inspection reports for Maui are encouraged to contact the Maui Food Safety Branch at 808-984-8230. Additional information on the department's placarding program can be found at http://health.hawaii.gov/san/.
