The Hawai‘i Department of Health (DOH) Office of Health Care Assurance (OHCA) took action against an unlicensed adult residential care home in ʻEwa Beach, Hawaiʻi. Nenita Mauricio, operating under Private Home Duty LLC, received a Notice of Violation and Order (NOVO) for disregarding licensing regulations.

According to the DOH, Mauricio's unlicensed adult residential care home accommodated at least six unrelated residents, triggering multiple complaints and subsequent investigations. Mauricio, a certified nurse aide in Hawai‘i, confessed to providing care within the unlicensed facility.

An adult residential care home (ARCH) is mandated to have a license to ensure the well-being of its residents. In response to Mauricio's violations, she has been instructed to halt operations immediately. Additionally, she faces a hefty administrative penalty of $315,000, equating to $1,000 for each day the unlicensed facility was operational, totaling 315 days.

This enforcement action aims to uphold the standards of care and safety within adult residential facilities, emphasizing the importance of compliance with licensing regulations.
