LĪHUʻE, HAWAIʻI — The Kaua‘i District Health Office (KDHO), in collaboration with Kaua‘i County, is set to host the sixth Tropic Care event on Kaua‘i, providing free healthcare services to the local community. Tropic Care is a mission under the Innovative Readiness Training (IRT) program of the armed forces. It aims to enhance troop readiness while simultaneously bolstering communities. The Tropic Care clinics will be returning to Kauaʻi on June 13, 2024 and will operate at various locations until June 20, 2024.

The eight-day Tropic Care clinics are open to the public free of charge and operate on a first-come, first-served basis. The clinics offer a range of services including physical exams, eye exams, eyeglass fabrication, dermatology services, dental exams, fillings and extractions. Attendees are advised to bring a current list of prescriptions and come prepared with water, snacks, sun protection and eyeglasses due to potential waiting times.

The Tropic Care clinic locations include Kapaʻa Middle School from June 13-20, Waimea Canyon Middle School from June 13-15 and Kilauea Elementary School from June 18-20. Clinic hours are from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., except for June 20 when all clinics will close at noon.

“We are excited to collaborate with the armed forces, the county, and community volunteers to bring Tropic Care back to Kaua‘i,” said Dr. Janet Berreman, Kauaiʻi District Health Officer. “We know that limited healthcare access and high costs can prevent some people in our community from receiving the care they need. This is a great opportunity to receive needed services for free, and we encourage everyone to take advantage of the Tropic Care clinics.”

Individuals requiring auxiliary aid or service or other accommodation due to a disability are advised to call 808-241-3555, preferably seven days in advance. Early requests will allow adequate time for the fulfillment of these requests. Upon request, this notice can be made available in alternate formats such as large print, Braille, or electronic copy.

During Tropic Care 2024, Kaua‘i Bus fixed route services across the island will be free of charge. For more information about Tropic Care, visit health.hawaii.gov/Kauai, or call 808-241-3555.
