The Department of Human Services (DHS) in collaboration with the Hawai‘i Department of Education will provide benefits under the SUN Bucks program for school-aged children during summer 2024. The initiative aims to ensure access to nutritious meals when schools are closed.
SUN Bucks, also known as Summer EBT, offers grocery-buying benefits to eligible families with school-aged children. Each eligible child will receive a single payment of $177 for the summer period. Most families will receive SUN Bucks automatically without needing to apply, although some parents may need to submit an application.
During this summer, SUN Bucks will be issued to EBT cards and mailed to the address provided in the SNAP or TANF case record or the school's student record for each eligible child. Families are advised to ensure their mailing addresses are current with their child's school and in their SNAP and TANF case records.
Eligible children falling into specific categories will receive SUN Bucks automatically without an application. Additional information regarding eligibility and the application process can be found on humanservices.hawaii.gov throughout June.
For those who need to apply, further details about application availability and procedures will be announced soon. Updates can be tracked on the SUN Bucks website.
