The Hawai‘i Department of Health (DOH) Food Safety Branch has closed Kat’s Kau Kau Moʻopuna Style, a mobile food establishment in Kailua-Kona. The closure occurred on October 22, 2024, following the discovery of an inoperative handwashing sink during a routine inspection.

The establishment, operated by Makaio Holdings LLC and located at Mile Marker 106 on Māmalahoa Highway, was issued a red "closed" placard due to its failure to provide an operational handwashing sink. The DOH requires the establishment to repair the sink before reopening. A follow-up inspection will be conducted once repairs are completed and the operator contacts the DOH.

The DOH Food Safety Branch is responsible for safeguarding public health through education and regulation of food establishments across Hawai‘i. It conducts regular inspections where food is prepared or sold and investigates potential sources of foodborne illnesses. The branch works with business owners and food industry workers to ensure safe practices and sanitary conditions.
