The Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) under the Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) is conducting a study to analyze the diet of game birds in public hunting areas on Hawaiʻi Island. This initiative coincides with the game bird hunting season, which runs from November 2, 2024, to January 26, 2025.

Samples are being collected to gain insights into what game birds consume. The results will inform future management strategies for these species.

Hunters interested in participating can find more information through flyers available at hunter check-in stations or by visiting the DOFAW website. Inquiries can be directed to the Hilo DOFAW office at 808-974-4221.
