The Hawai‘i Department of Health (DOH) Food and Drug Branch has issued a public alert regarding a recall by Wismettac Asian Foods, Inc. The recall concerns the Shirakiku brand Curvee Puffs Corn Puff Snack – Curry Flavor due to undeclared milk, which is an allergen.
This product was distributed to retail stores across Hawai‘i. The UPC for the affected product is 07441078512, located on the back right side of the package. All lot codes and date codes are included in this recall. The Food and Drug Branch is working with local retailers to ensure that these products are removed from shelves.
For individuals with a milk allergy or severe sensitivity, consuming or being exposed to this product could lead to serious or life-threatening allergic reactions. Symptoms can include runny nose, skin reactions like hives or swelling, digestive issues such as diarrhea and stomach cramps, and respiratory problems like wheezing or shortness of breath.
Milk allergies can also trigger anaphylaxis, a severe reaction that can impede breathing. Signs of anaphylaxis include throat swelling, low blood pressure, increased heart rate, chest pain, difficulty breathing, and dizziness.
Consumers with milk allergies should contact their healthcare provider if they have consumed the recalled product. In cases of anaphylaxis symptoms, immediate use of an epinephrine autoinjector is advised followed by contacting emergency services. No illnesses related to this recall have been reported.
The Food and Drug Branch advises consumers to check their purchases for the recalled product. Those who have bought it should not consume it if anyone in their household has a milk allergy.
