The Hawai‘i Department of Health Hawai‘i District Health Office and the County of Hawai‘i Mayor’s Office are collaborating on a community event to mark National Public Health Week 2025. The event will be held on Friday, April 11, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Hilo State Office Building lanai. Its focus is to promote health and wellness among residents.
“This event is a great opportunity for residents to learn more about health services, raise awareness about key public health issues, and inspire action toward fostering a healthier future for our Hawai‘i Island community,” said Hawai‘i County Mayor Kimo Alameda.
The event will feature resources from the Department of Health, local community partners, and other health organizations. Attendees will have access to entertainment, giveaways, and food trucks.
Running from April 7-13, National Public Health Week 2025 emphasizes daily themes that spotlight public health topics, urging individuals to contribute to a healthier community. The priority areas are crucial to progress toward creating a healthier nation.
The identified priority areas include:
1. “It Starts Here: Your Health is Our Mission” – Focused on access to essential health resources and services.
2. “Climate Action Starts Here: Amplifying Voices for Public Health” – Concentrating on the impact of climate change and promoting sustainable solutions.
3. “Health Equity Starts Here: Optimizing Health for All” – Aiming to ensure all communities have the chance to achieve optimal health.
4. “Advocacy Starts Here: Amplifying Voices for Public Health” – Aiming to enhance public health efforts through advocacy and policy change.
5. “The Future of Public Health Starts Here: Strengthening the Public Health Workforce” – Focused on supporting the next generation of public health professionals.
