HPD opens investigation into arrow shooting at Hāpuna Beach Park

The Hawaii Police Department (HPD) has opened an investigation into an incident at Hāpuna Beach Park where a woman was struck by an arrow. Detectives from the Area II Criminal Investigation Section (CIS) are leading the second-degree assault investigation after the victim reported being shot with an arrow while walking to her car on Wednesday evening, September 6.

According to the HPD, the incident took place at around 7:30pm when the victim was returning to her vehicle parked at the northern end of the main parking lot. She heard a gunshot-like sound nearby but was initially unaware of her injury. However, she soon discovered a substantial laceration and bleeding on her left bicep. The woman immediately left the area and contacted medical and law enforcement for assistance.

When officers arrived at the scene, they located the victim and her vehicle in the vicinity of Kawaihae and Akulani Road. An arrow was found lodged in the driver's side rear quarter panel, with its size and type matching those used in crossbows. The victim was treated for her injuries at Queen's North Hawaii Community Hospital and later released.

HPD is urging anyone with information about the incident to contact Detective Cacique Melendez at 808-326-4646, ext. 281, or via email at cacique.melendez@hawaiicounty.gov.
