HONOLULU — The Hawai‘i Department of Health (DOH) Office of Health Care Assurance (OHCA) issued a Notice of Violation and Order (NOVO) to Nenita Mauricio, Private Home Duty LLC, for operating an unlicensed adult residential care home (ARCH) at 91-1046 Muiona Street, ʻEwa Beach, Hawaiʻi.

The investigation revealed that Mauricio, a certified nurse aide in Hawai‘i, acknowledged providing care for individuals in the unlicensed facility. This action led to the issuance of the NOVO by the health department.

As defined by law, an ARCH provides living accommodations and care services to adults requiring assistance in daily living activities. The state of Hawai‘i mandates that all adult residential care homes must be licensed to ensure the well-being of the residents.

In response to the violation, Mauricio is obligated to halt the operation of the unlicensed ARCH and pay a substantial administrative penalty. The penalty amounts to $315,000, calculated at $1,000 for each day the facility operated without a license, totaling 315 days from July 1, 2023, to May 10, 2024.

Furthermore, Mauricio has a 20-day window to request a hearing following the receipt of the NOVO. Failure to do so will result in the finalization and enforcement of the order after the specified period.

The DOH's decisive action underscores the importance of adherence to licensing regulations in ensuring the safety and welfare of individuals in care facilities.
