The Department of the Attorney General has launched a new webpage dedicated to its Human Trafficking Prevention Program. The site, accessible at https://ag.hawaii.gov/traffickingprevention/, aims to enhance public awareness and provide educational resources to prevent human trafficking in Hawai‘i.

Established by the Legislature in 2023, the Human Trafficking Prevention Program focuses on addressing the needs of victims through comprehensive statewide strategies.

In observance of Human Trafficking Awareness Month this January, the Department will host various events. These include a Virtual Lunch and Learn Speaker Series, a Sign-Waving Event and Resource Fair, and a Candlelight Vigil.

The Virtual Lunch and Learn Speaker Series will feature experts discussing key topics related to human trafficking. "These virtual sessions are designed to educate and empower attendees. We encourage community members, service providers, law enforcement, and policymakers to attend and participate in these events to strengthen the fight against human trafficking in Hawai‘i," stated Dianne Bowen-Coleman, Human Trafficking Abatement Coordinator at the Department of the Attorney General.

The Resource Fair will offer information booths followed by a sign-waving event aimed at showing solidarity against human trafficking.

Additionally, a Candlelight Vigil is planned to honor survivors and remember those affected by human trafficking. This event will include speeches from advocates and service providers. The vigil seeks to create a reflective space reaffirming community commitment to ending human trafficking.

Details about these events can be found on the program's webpage: https://ag.hawaii.gov/traffickingprevention/htpp-event-calendar/.

The website was developed by the Special Investigation and Prosecution Division of the Department of the Attorney General.
