Three men have been cited for fishing violations at the Ahihi-Kinau Natural Area Reserve (NAR) on May 27, 2024. The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) reported that the men were found in possession of a total of 78 different fish, some of which were under the legal size limits.

Hawaiian Home Lands residents urged to switch from Sandwich Isles Communications
On May 24, 2024, up to 1,500 households and businesses on Hawaiian Home Lands are facing a sudden loss of phone and internet service provided by Sandwich Isles Communications (SIC). Affected parties are located throughout the state, including many in remote communities. The Department of Hawaiian Home Lands (DHHL) is urging beneficiaries who receive service from SIC to immediately switch to another provider to avoid interruptions.

Gov. Green announces retirement of Maj. Gen. Kenneth Hara
Governor Green has announced the retirement of Maj. Gen. Kenneth Hara, who has served on three combat deployments to Baghdad, Iraq; Camp Arifjan, Kuwait; and Kandahar, Afghanistan. Appointed as The Adjutant General (TAG) in December 2019, Hara served as the state’s overall incident commander from 2020-2023 during the COVID-19 pandemic response and again for the Maui wildfire response from 2023 to present.

No jet fuel found: Hawaii health department reports on military base water quality
An independent investigation by the Hawaiʻi Department of Health (DOH) has confirmed that no petroleum or jet fuel compounds were detected in 15 drinking water samples collected at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam (JBPHH) and Aliamanu Military Reservation (AMR). The samples included 12 from homes at JBPHH and AMR, as well as three from source water shafts. The Navy’s Waiawa Shaft, currently the sole source for JBPHH and AMR drinking water systems, was among the sources tested, along with the Navy’s ʻAiea-Hālawa and Red Hill Shafts.

Hawai'i awarded $916 million against pharmaceutical companies over Plavix disclosures
Hawaiʻi Attorney General Anne Lopez announced today the entry of an order awarding the state $916,012,000 against pharmaceutical companies Bristol-Myers Squibb Company and three U.S.-based subsidiaries of French pharmaceutical company Sanofi. The companies were found to have violated Hawai‘i’s laws against unfair and deceptive practices by failing to disclose the efficacy and safety profile of the drug Plavix.
